Mike Lynch has been a broadcast Meteorologist at WCCO Radio
since 1981. He’s covered everything from
horrific tornadoes to record cold temperatures. He was broadcasting live in Tower, Minnesota on
February 2nd, 1996 when the temperature plummeted to 60 degrees below zero - the all time record low for
the state.
Mike’s astronomy interest includes teaching, which goes back to
1973 when he taught his first astronomy-stargazing class at the Wood
Lake Nature Center in Richfield, MN. His interest in the night sky was
inspired
by the U.S. Space Exploration Program and the moon landings and
has expanded into building three of his own telescopes, which he has been
using since the 1970’s.
Lynch has taught thousands of classes all around Minnesota and
western Wisconsin. He loves teaching the
basics of stargazing and especially pointing out constellations and
telling their stories. The main goal
Mike has for his students is to “make the stars your old friends!”
